Squatters who occupied the home of Madonna’s former husband Guy Ritchie and turned it into a ‘free school’ were evicted on Friday night after the film director obtained a court order for their removal.

The squatters staged a farewell party, dubbed a “celebration of creative resistance” as bailiffs began moving into the Georgian property, in London’s Fitzroy Square.

Nine of the Really Free School squatters wearing Vinnie Jones masks had earlier in the day attended a City of London county court hearing in a failed bid to prevent the eviction.

District Judge Marc Dight told the squatters to vacate the £6 million property belonging to the director – who cast Jones, a former footballer turned actor, in several of his films – by 6.30pm.

The Really Free School collective was represented in court by Brian Murray, a first-year law student, who claimed the eviction notice had not been placed properly and asked for more time to prepare a defence.

When he revealed he was a law student, Judge Dight said: “You could have told me that to begin with.”

He rejected the students’ legal arguments and found that Mr Ritchie, who had been renovating the 1790s property, designed by Robert Adam, had the right to take back the building.

Judge Dight said: “It seems to me that the defendants, despite their valiant attempts, are unable to support a procedural or a substantive claim.

“The claimant has made me aware that the building is being renovated and having asbestos removed. The obvious fallout from the occupation is that the renovation has been unable to go ahead.

“I’m told the floorboards are unsafe, with holes in the floor, and there is no water, no heating, no lavatory and limited electricity.

“There is no access to outside and I am led to believe there are no sanitary facilities whatsoever, presenting severe health risks to the occupiers.”

Following the hearing the Really Free School posted plans on their website for a “massive street soirée” featuring music, games and dance.

As a result hundreds of supporters gathered in the building for the party, before spilling out into Fitzroy Square.

Police had attended the scene in case of violence, but the squatters eventually left the building peacefully and no arrests were made.

At one stage furniture belonging to the Really Free School collective, including sofas, desks and cooking equipment, was piled in the middle of the road, as bailiffs secured the property, ensuring all windows were securely shut and the front door reinforced.

The squatters had run a daily schedule of events open to the public, including films, workshops and discussions, after moving into the property last weekend, claiming it was being left empty and was a waste of a valuable resource.

Shortly after being evicted members of the collective claimed on their website that they had already found another property to squat and were asking volunteers to help with moving a grand piano into the building.

They had previously occupied an empty property in Bloomsbury Square, where they also staged educational events.

The name collective’s name was adopted in opposition to the Government’s plans for Free Schools to be set up and run by parents.

Opponents claim the scheme will only be taken up by middle-class families and serve to drain resources away from poorer areas.

Report by Patrick Sawer – The UK Telegraph.

Buying an apartment in Paris can be expensive. The average price per square metre is €6,680. In the Saint-Germain des-Pres area of Paris a square metre can cost up to €12,440 and the Pont de Flandre area is the cheapest at €4,840 per square metre.

€255,000 is the asking price for a one bedroom apartment on the fifth floor of an old building, with no lift. It’s situated near the centre of the city, it comes with a very basic kitchen and would need painting and decorating.

If you’re not into DIY, €1,195,000 will get you an 86 square metre apartment in the Trocadero area and it has a balcony from which you can see the tip of the Eiffel Tower.
